Ebersdorf sets standards: First 'green' terminal officially opened

The Geis Group has now officially opened its new, sustainable freight forwarding terminal in Ebersdorf near Coburg. Around 200 guests attended the inauguration ceremony, including District Administrator Sebastian Straubel and the First Mayor of Ebersdorf, Bernd Reisenweber.

The ultra-modern ‘eco-terminal’ was built on a 44,000 square metre site in the Ebersdorf West industrial estate and significantly expands the Geis Group's capacities in Upper Franconia. As a replacement for the previous site in Lichtenfels, the new terminal now offers 6,000 square metres of handling space as well as a three-storey office building with 1,300 square metres of space.

A particular highlight is the sustainable construction of the terminal. The guests were particularly impressed by the generous use of the renewable raw material wood as a building material, the green office roof for improved thermal insulation and a photovoltaic system that generates around 500,000 kilowatt hours of green electricity per year.

Ebersdorf is a prime example of sustainable property and serves as a blueprint for our future buildings.

During tours of the facility, the guests were also able to gain an impression of the other facilities at the new Geis site. For example, the terminal has 77 gates for fast goods handling, its own petrol station and a rainwater-fed truck wash. The immediate proximity to the A73 motorway also ensures optimum transport connections.

Our new terminal in Ebersdorf not only symbolises our transformation towards sustainability, but also significantly strengthens our regional presence.
