Geis and Siemens focus on sustainable transport with HVO100

Sustainability, Road Services, Press releases, 26. March 2025

We are expanding our long-standing partnership with Siemens AG with an innovative sustainability project: our joint goal is to significantly reduce CO2 emissions during road transportation in the Siemens supply chain by using the climate-friendly fuel HVO100 in combination with a certified book & claim process.

They stand for sustainable partnership: Sabine Geis, Global Account Manager Siemens of the Geis Group, and Dirk Grund, Head of Global Commodity Management - Ground Transportation, Siemens AG.

Together, we are focusing on HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a certified biogenic fuel made from 100% residual and waste materials. Compared to conventional diesel, HVO100 enables CO2 savings of up to 90 percent. We have secured around six million liters of this climate-friendly fuel and fill it up at our own filling stations.

Innovative book & claim model

Our book & claim process enables Siemens to offset the CO2 savings from the use of HVO100 in our fleet against our own transports.

Geis was one of the first service providers to offer us a book & claim concept.

Dirk Grund, Head of Global Commodity Management - Ground Transportation, Siemens AG

The quantities of CO2 saved are credited to Siemens in Scope 3 and confirmed by certificates. Our Global Account Manager for Siemens Sabine Geis emphasizes: “With our Book & Claim model, we combine the flexibility of conventional transport with the climate impact of alternative fuels.”

Long-term partnership with vision

The pilot project on the Book & Claim model has further potential as it is currently the only relatively easily scalable offsetting model in road freight transportation. It supports Siemens' strategic goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain by fiscal 2050. At the same time, it drives forward our MissionZero, with which we want to operate completely climate-neutral in Scope 1 + 2 by 2040.

We dispatch 8,000 to 10,000 consignments a day from our Nuremberg site alone. Thanks to our own filling stations and our high proportion of our own fleet, we can make intensive use of HVO100.

Technological bridge to climate neutrality

Our Head of Sustainability Germany Marcus Wieser adds: “HVO100 with Book & Claim is an innovative measure to decarbonize road freight transport in the medium term. At the same time, we are investing in electric trucks and are involved in pilot projects with hydrogen drives in order to exploit all technological options for climate-friendly transportation.”

We are proud to make an important contribution to sustainability in the logistics industry together with Siemens and look forward to continuing to work together on this forward-looking project.
