The system consists of 795 ultra-light modules - no coincidence, as the original building could not be fitted with normal modules for structural reasons. Nevertheless, we wanted to get the maximum out of the system and therefore opted for these lightweight modules. We also installed 1048 normal PV modules, which will bathe in the Franconian sun as much as possible in future. We were supported by the building technology specialist Adites.
Together, the modules have an impressive output of 787 kilowatt peak (kWp) at full load, which corresponds to the maximum output. Even more impressive is the expected annual yield: 817,000 kilowatt hours. This corresponds to the annual requirements of around 233 four-person households, each consuming 3,500 kilowatt hours.
“We are particularly pleased to implement these positive changes and thus make an important contribution to environmental protection.”
Marcus Wieser, Head of Sustainability Germany
Most of the electricity generated is used by our branch itself and thus covers its own requirements. This is easily enough to power not only our building and our electric forklifts, but also the planned electric trucks. And the best thing about it: whatever is left over flows into the grid and is used in other Geis branches. With node.energy, legally compliant billing for our PV power supplies via the public power grid is no problem.
In this way, we are not only supporting our sustainability goals, but also promoting the expansion of our e-mobility projects. Our first electric swap body vehicle will be rolling across the yard as early as September. And, of course, we will soon be putting the e-charging points for company cars and visitors into operation.
Our PV system is just one building block in the sustainable transformation of our branch, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary on Rudolf-Diesel-Ring this year. Another step was saving energy through intelligent lighting in the hall. Here we rely on a system that not only has daylight sensors, but also presence detectors. This means that the lighting is only switched up to standard level when required, otherwise the basic lighting is maintained or the devices switch off completely.
New green spaces will soon be sprouting in front of our building. We have cleared parts of the site of tarmac – another contribution to our green future.
“Our sustainability strategy is not only visible in new buildings, but also in the continuous improvement of our existing properties, such as the company headquarters in Bad Neustadt.”
Martin Vonderau, Head of Construction + Real Estate Germany
