Stronger in western Germany: Geis takes over the Gras Group

Press, Corporate, Press releases, 12. December 2024

The contracts have just been signed: With effect from 1 January 2025, we are taking over the Gras Group, based in Neuwied near Koblenz. This will strengthen our presence in western Germany and further expand our position in the IDS network.

Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, and North Rhine-Westphalia: The Gras Group employs a total of 470 people at its sites in Neuwied and Polch (both near Koblenz), Frechen and Kerpen (both near Cologne) and Mannheim. They generated a turnover of 125 million euros in 2023.

Their services are a perfect match for ours and include transport concepts for procurement and distribution, B2B and private customer deliveries as well as contract and warehouse logistics. Gras has recently invested in the construction of a state-of-the-art logistics centre in Polch to further develop its logistics services.

Added value for both companies

The acquisition brings benefits on all sides: With the new locations, we strengthen our presence in western Germany and can take on additional consignment volumes and contract logistics projects that complement our portfolio in a meaningful way. At the same time, customers of the Gras Group will benefit from our unique network in Central and South-Eastern Europe and our strong commitment to digitalisation, automation, process efficiency and sustainability.

The Gras sites have excellent future prospects in our dynamically growing group. Jens Köster, the current managing director of Gras, will run the sites together with our management team. All employees will be taken on and existing customer relationships and contacts will be maintained.

The decision to hand over the Gras Group to the Geis Group is based on decades of trusting partnership between the two companies. Gras and Geis are not only linked by their cooperation within the IDS Group since the 1980s, but also by their understanding as family-run companies: reliability, appreciation and close cooperation are the focus.

“I know that the future of the Gras Group and our company is in the best of hands,” explains Madeleine Boos, Managing Partner of Gras, who is retiring from the company at her own request. The previous Managing Director Horst Stockschläder is taking his well-earned retirement after decades of service.

Further growth together

“The transaction gives us the opportunity to continue growing in economically strong regions of Germany,” emphasises Hans-Wolfgang Geis, Managing Partner. “At the same time, we are strengthening our position within the IDS Group.” By integrating the four IDS locations of Gras in Neuwied, Polch, Mannheim and Frechen, we now serve eleven regions within Germany’s largest groupage cooperation.

“This acquisition strengthens our position in the German market,” explains Jochen Geis, Managing Partner. “We look forward to working together and welcome all employees of the Gras Group!”
